Webb, IowaEdith Christine Donaldson, the daughter of Harry and Clara Bruhn Prince, was born February 10, 1909, in Poweshiek County near Grinnell, IA. She received her early education in a country school in Jasper County, IA. Her family later moved to Pipestone, MN, when she was seven years old where she continued her education in a country school and later in Pipestone, MN.
Edith married Glen Donaldson on November 23, 1926, in Pipestone, MN. The early years of their marriage were spent in Marathon and Sioux Rapids before moving to Laurens where they made their home for 37 years. She worked as a store clerk at Coast to Coast and later a grocery store in Laurens. She was an active partner in the business that they founded, Donaldson Docks.
She was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church. Edith enjoyed collecting antiques and had a booth at the Clay County Fair for many years. She also collected dolls and enjoyed watching birds.
Following their retirement, Glen and Edith moved to Spirit Lake, IA, and in 1992, they moved to Spencer, IA. Following 70 years of marriage, Glen passed away on January 15, 1997.
Edith passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the age of 99.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters: Shirley Stewart in 1994 and one in infancy; two brothers: Gerald and Roland Tiny Prince and a sister, Mable Rose.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Marjean Vote of Dexter, IA; one son-in-law and his wife, Bob and Beverly Stewart of Spencer, IA; 6 grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
