Spencer, IowaH. Kenneth Nurse, the son of Howard and Greta Green Nurse, was born December 13, 1918 in Crawford County. Ken received his education and graduated from the Dunlap High School.
From 1939 to 1941, Ken worked for an aircraft company in New York, Ohio, Missouri & Nebraska. He returned to Iowa and was united in marriage to Della Wadsworth at Omaha, NE in 1942. Ken later farmed near Dunlap for two years. He attended Morningside College and Iowa State University where he graduated in 1947. From 1947-1977 he taught Voc Ag at Hartley High School and was a self- employed contractor.
Ken married Elaine Blake in 1966 at Hartley, Iowa, where they resided until moving to Spencer in 1977.
Ken was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. He was administrator of the Moose Lodge in Spencer, secretary for Moose Legion Lewis & Clark in South Sioux City, Carroll, Storm Lake, Spencer, and Lincoln, and was on the legislations relation chair for IA and E. Nebr. Ken was also a former Shrine member, member of the Masonic Lodge in Spencer, and was active in Kiwanis where he was President three times and Lt. Gov. of Division 2. Ken was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1964.
Ken passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008, in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant children and one sister, Betty Harrell.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine of Spencer, IA; one son, Dennis and wife, Denise of Hartley, IA; one daughter, Linda Peters of Mitchell, SD; two stepdaughters: Sharon Michailidis and husband, Bill of Sioux Falls, SD, and Pam Mears and husband, Grant of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; 3 greatgrandsons; 5 step great-grandsons; two sisters: Doris Kella and husband, Melvin of Sydney, NE, and Margaret Plotz of Orange City, IA; other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
