William Vernon Erick, the son of William H. Erick and Helen Campbell Erick, was born November 7, 1928 in Letcher, SD. He received his early education in South Dakota before moving to Spencer, where he finished Jr. High and High School, graduating from Spencer High School.
Following his schooling, Bill entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 during WWII until receiving his honorable discharge.
Bill married Mary Janice Berberich on November 19, 1949. They farmed in the Royal/Everly area until 1986, when they went to Mesa, Arizona. Born to this union were six sons and three daughters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Everly. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and bowling.
Bill passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Linda.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice of Everly; six sons and their wives: Greg and Sharon Erick, Gordon and LeAnn Erick, Larry and Sheryl Erick, Mike and Penny Erick, Blaine Erick, Jon and Judy Erick; two daughters and their husbands: Joni and David Bird, Lisa and Bob Whitcomb; 24 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
