Richard Louis Kracht

Richard Louis Kracht, the son of Louis and Elsie (Amendt) Kracht, was born February 24, 1925 in Buena Vista, Iowa. He had lived on the same farm, south of Peterson, all of his life. He attended Brooke Consolidated School and graduated in 1943.

Richard married Iris Goettsche on September 30, 1948 at the Royal Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa. Following their marriage, they continued to live on the family farm, where they farmed for many years, until retiring in 1999. Richard was then caretaker for Duane Wheelers acreage for six years.

He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Peterson for many years. Richard loved to dance, go camping and playing cards with friends. They were in card clubs for 45 years. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing pool on the table he bought at the age of 81.

Richard passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Charlotte Elaine.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Iris of Peterson, IA; three daughters: Nadene Gerke of Mesa, AZ, Marlene Kucera and her husband, Richard of Cedar Falls, IA and Maxine Butler and her husband, Patrick of Spirit Lake, IA; five grandchildren: Randall Gerke, Robyn Gerke, Alissa Ericson and her husband, Carl, Andrea Kucera and Corbet Butler; two sisters: Roberta Brehmer of Peterson, IA and Jeanette Raveling of Spirit Lake, IA; other relatives and friends.
