Wilber (Butch) Myren Rabel, the son of George Matthew and Alma Lehnhoff Rabel, was born March 10, 1924 in Remsen, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Marcus, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Marcus High School in 1941.

Wilber married Geraldine (Gerry) Niichel on November 26, 1945 in Granville, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed for many years near Granville, Iowa. In 1966, they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he owned the Colonial Motel and worked at Herbster Electric, until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Wilber also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time at his lake home at Lost Island near Ruthven.

Wilber passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, June 9, 2008 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Tara and Megan Rabel; a grandson, Jeremy Rabel and a sister, Marie Metcalf.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Gerry of Spencer; eight children and their spouses: Nancy and John Cain of Winfield, KS, Mary and Dan Nelsen of Spencer, IA, Tom and Virginia Rabel of Spencer, IA, Terry and Sue Rabel of Spencer, IA, Diane and Bernie Pasco of Loveland, CO, Chuck and Carol Rabel of Spencer, IA, Paula and Jim Bendlin of Spencer, IA and Ken and Cindy Rabel of Aurora, CO; 31 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
