Fern Louise (Naas) Lavin, the daughter of Elliott Oliver and Ruth Louise Brown Naas, was born March 4, 1939 in Williston, North Dakota. Her childhood years were spent in Williston, North Dakota, where she received her early education and graduated from Williston High School.

Fern married Robert Baker in Williston, in 1957. Following their marriage, they moved to California, until returning back to Williston within a year. To this union, one daughter was born, Debbie. After giving birth to their daughter, Fern began working at Montgomery Wards.

Fern married Larry Lavin in Sidney, Montana in 1964 and resided in Spencer, Iowa. To this union, one son was born, Craig. She then began employment at Rexall Drug Store and Smith Jewelry. Her later years were spent at Dickinson Care Facility in Spirit Lake, Iowa and Northshire Residence in Spencer, Iowa.

Her joy in life was her family and making personal sacrifices to bring happiness to those around her and memories that last forever. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, playing instruments, going for coffee, shopping and car rides.

Fern passed away unexpectedly at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, her father and an infant son.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Ruth Louise Naas of Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Debbie Sierck and her husband, Tom of Spencer, IA; two grandchildren: David Sierck of Spencer, IA and Jamilee Sierck of West Des Moines, IA; one sister, Judy Mjelstad and her husband, Marlin of Bismarck, ND; one nephew, Aaron Mjelstad and his family of Minnetrista, MN; one niece, Michelle Maier and her family of Bismarck, ND; one aunt, Betty Steiner and her family of Murrieta, CA; special friend, Jim Larsen of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.
