Marie Ella Roskens Wood, daughter of Martin and Anna (Bleeker) Roskens, was born November 18, 1919, near Everly, IA. She received her early education in the Waterford Township Rural Schools and graduated from Everly High School in 1937.

On May 16, 1941, Marie married Norman D. Wood at her familys home near Everly. Following their marriage, they farmed south of Spencer for three years before moving to their farm in Meadow Township.

Marie was an active member of the Spencer community. She was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and participated in various United Methodist Womens groups. She was a member of the Meadow Township and Clay County Farm Bureau Women. Marie loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens as well as her spacious lawn. She also enjoyed crafts, quilting and collecting teddy bears. Marie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her granddaughters.

Marie passed away at Northshire Residence on April 18, 2008, at the age of 88.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; and 4 brothers: Herman, Eite, Evert and Harold. Marie is survived by one son and his wife, Ronald and Kaye of Tulsa, OK; one daughter and her husband, Wanda and Larry Mitchell of Dubuque, IA; two granddaughters, Heather Mitchell and husband, Tom Plagge of San Francisco, CA, and Heidi Mitchell of Dubuque, IA; one sister, Mildred Klett of Everly, IA; two sisters-in-law, Viola and Ruth Roskens, both of Spencer, IA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
