Spencer, IowaAlberta Juanita Beck, the daughter of Albert and Ethel (Snook) Hoffert, was born April 25, 1921 in Mallard, Iowa. Alberta graduated from high school in Royal Iowa. It was in Royal where Alberta met Orval.
On February 16, 1941, Alberta married Orval Beck in Hawarden, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Royal area for about 20 years before moving to Sibley, Iowa. While in Sibley, they started a new business called Sibley Steel Building and Supply, which Orval ran with their sons until 1983. They also owned and operated the A&W Restaurant in Sibley for several years.
They moved to West Lake Okoboji following retirement and for the rest of their lives together, they spent half of the year in Mission, Texas and half of the year in West Lake Okoboji. For the past year, Alberta has lived in Spencer, Iowa.
On Wednesday, March 27, 2008, Alberta passed away at the St Lukes Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 86. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her sister, Phyllis O'Clair; her husband and one grandson, Tommy Beck.
Alberta is survived by her two sons and their wives: Jerry and Mary Beck of Spencer; Jim and Muriel Beck of North Richland Hills, Texas; one daughter: Judy Beck of Denver Colorado; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; other friends and relatives.
