Spencer, IowaRobert Lee Reed(Newcomb) Reed, was born March 17, 1930 in Peterson, Iowa. He attended school at Peterson, Iowa, and was a truck driver all of his life. He started driving school bus at the age of sixteen. He hauled everything from ready-mix, gravel, farm products, molasses, petroleum products and beer. He was last employed with Chuck Whittenburg Distributing for fifteen years, until his retirement in 1995.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea in 1952 and 1953 as a heavy vehicle driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post #384 for over forty years, and belonged to the Teamsters Union #383.
Robert married Sandra Kelley on June 30, 1957 at Minden, Iowa. Most of his life was spent around the Peterson, Spencer and Milford area, except for a short time in Minnesota and North Dakota. He enjoyed making an annual trip to Las Vegas, and going to coffee at Pair-a-dice and Buy Rite every day.
He passed away at his home in Milford, Iowa on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the age of 78.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Howard and Ralph and three sisters: Evelyn Christensen Brees, Mary Lohner and Frances Snyder.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra of Milford; one son, Daniel of Edina, MN; one daughter, Kelley of Milford; one sister, Shirley Friedrichsen and her husband, of Peterson, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
