Florence Rozella Mincer, the daughter of John and Tena (Klaassen) Abels, was born March 23, 1916 in George, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sibley, Iowa, where she was raised on a farm east of Sibley and received her education, graduating from Sibley High School. Following high school, she taught school for a short time and then began nursing, which was her first love. She began training in the Sibley Hospital and then Watertown, SD until moving to Spencer, Iowa, where she worked for several years.

Florence married Donald Ervin Mincer on March 9, 1946 in Jackson, MN. To this union were born 3 children: John, Linda & Donald. Following their marriage, they farmed near Cresco, Iowa for six years. They moved to Macedonia, Iowa, where they helped Dons brother, Lyle in his business and then they moved to Riverside, California, where she worked in housing for 16 years. They moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1987 and she worked in home health, which she thoroughly enjoyed, until her retirement in 1998.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Spencer.

In 1996, she married Robert Vanderhoff in Spencer, Iowa. They enjoyed their retirement for many years together.

Florence passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John; her husband, Donald in 1993 and two brothers: Hazen Ables and Buster Ables.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Vanderhoff of Spencer; her children: Linda Moore of Rustburg, VA, and Don, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Mincer of Early, Iowa; her stepchildren: Joan Klingsheim and her husband, Gilbert of Graettinger, IA, Janet Larson of St. Charles, IL, Betty and her husband, Rev. Vernon Nybakken of Kelso, WA, Tom and his wife, Janet Mincer of Encino, CA, Russell and his wife, Marlys Vanderhoff and Nancy Eaton all from Spencer; 21 grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
