Spencer, IowaNorman Ire Williamson, son of Henry and Bertha (Wichman) Williamson, was born August 13, 1935, in Spencer, Iowa. He received his education at Ayrshire Consolidated School. Norman served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1953 to 1955. After being honorably discharged from the service he returned home to continue farming.
On August 23, 1959, Norman was united in marriage to Marvel Le Scharnberg at the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
Norman farmed in Clay and Palo Alto counties his entire life, loving every aspect of agriculture and farming. It was not only his livelihood but his hobby as well. Even when he and Scharny wintered in southern Texas, Norman was constantly making note of the crops being planted and raised there. He loved to report back to his children in Iowa, about the progress of the crops in Texas.
Norman was a huge supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events for many years until it became difficult for him to attend the games. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of all of them. Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served on the Ruthven Board of Education.
Norman passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marvel Le; two brothers, LuVerne and Eugene Williamson; and a brother-in-law, Bob Spurling.
He is survived by his children, Roger (Lori) Williamson of Ruthven, Iowa, John (Vicki) Williamson of Spencer, Iowa and Sharon (Ryan Johannsen) Henricksen of Spencer, Iowa; his grandchildren, Alex (Allison Birkey) Williamson, Brittany (Brady) Follon, Ryan (Brooke Birkey) Williamson, Ashley Williamson, Heather Williamson, Caitlin (Kaleb Bolte) Henricksen, Garrett Henricksen and Casey Henricksen; his great grandchildren, Brynlee and Bristol Follon and Kinsley Williamson; a brother, Bob (Lou) Williamson of Spencer, Iowa; sisters, Joann (Kenny) Garrelts of Spencer, Iowa, Lorraine Spurling of Murry, Utah; sisters-in-law, Mildred “Peanuts” Williamson of Ruthven, Iowa and Betty Williamson of Spencer, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
