Lone Tree Cemetery
Everly, Iowa

Vonda Rae Flack Steece, born February 7, 1953 in Spencer, Iowa, was joyfully adopted and lovingly raised by Ray and Marie Flack in Spencer, where she graduated from high school in 1971. Vonda married Gary Steece in 1976 and they were blessed with a son, Jason Matthew Steece, in 1977. Jason was the light of Vondas life.

Vonda worked for many years as an EMT, and in 1985, she became the first woman to become a member of the Spencer Fire Department, where she served for 8 years. In the last 8 years of her life, she was a familiar and beloved face where she worked, at the Spencer Wal-Mart. She was a grateful recovering member of Narcotics Anonymous for many years.

Vonda loved to cook for her friends, adding all the extra little touches that made a meal memorable, and was Aunt Vonda to all the lucky pets belonging to friends and family, always bringing treats for her beloved four-legged friends when she visited. Vonda was always prepared for anything, be it flood, fire or famine. Even if she was only gone for a day, she prepared for any eventuality. She enjoyed many interests, from travel to reading, shopping and the Internet, had a wonderful sense of style, and was an interesting and fun companion.

Vonda died suddenly at home May 29th, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marie Flack, her birth mother, Susie Applegate, all of her grandparents, and her youngest brother, Donald Tuttle.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jason Steece of Spencer; her brother, (Pat) Earl Tuttle and his wife, Bonnie of Lake Mills, Iowa; another brother, Robert De Maris from Colorado; and many close friends who were also family, along with the many many people who were the recipients of her generosity and thoughtfulness. She will be sorely missed.
