Spencer, IowaJohn Lee Wilbur, son of Norman and Mary (O'Neill) Wilbur was born on August 30, 1939, in Ponca, Nebraska. His childhood years were spent in Newcastle, Nebraska and Spencer, Iowa where he attended grade school and high school. In May of 1970, John received a brick laying certification in Fort Dodge, Iowa
On May 16, 1966, John was united in marriage to Barbara Marble in Spencer, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with three children, Jeanna (Gary) Richter, Jeff (fiance-Jodie) Wilbur, and Jen (partner Todd) Nelson.
John married Tina Overeen on May 20, 1983, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with two children, John Jr. (fiance Amber) Wilbur, and Michael Wilbur.
Throughout his life, John lived in Newcastle, Nebraska; Spencer, Iowa: Garden City, Kansas; Peterson, Iowa; and most recently, Sioux City, Iowa. His vocations included construction work and packing plant work.
As a younger man he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and CB radios. Later in life, he enjoyed his television, especially game shows. He always enjoyed visits from his family.
On February 19, 2007, John passed away at St. Lukes Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law.
Left to cherish his memory are his five children- Jeanna of Hartley, Iowa; Jefferson of Spencer, Iowa; Jennifer of Ireton, Iowa; John Jr. of Estherville, Iowa; and Michael of Ruthven, Iowa; six grandchildren: Paige Nelson, Kaylee Nelson, Chance Richter, Jacob Nelson, Alexander Wilbur, and Kaci Richter; seven sisters: Mary Kay Stewart of Iowa City, Iowa, Frances Lundberg of Green Valley, Arizona, Judy (Henry) Groen of Shakopee, Minnesota, Bonnie French (Dennis) Watters of Iowa City, Iowa, Linda Grifhorst of Iowa City, Iowa, Lana (Richard) Edens of Eagan, Minnesota, Peggy Jo (Butch) Espey of Byron, Minnesota, many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
