Clayton James Rusk, the son of Homer John and Vira Dell (King) Rusk, was born May 2, 1922, on the family farm near Dickens, Iowa. His childhood years were spent near Dickens, where he attended Springdale Country School and graduated from Dickens High School.

Clayton married Lucille Harriet Adams on February 23, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived on the family farm near Dickens, where he farmed for his entire life. He was an active member of the Dickens United Methodist Church and served on the church board. He also served on the Dickens Cooperative Elevator Board, the South Clay School Board, and the Clay County Extension Council. Having built his own home, Clayton shared his talent by helping others with their construction projects. Clayton loved music and is remembered for his beautiful tenor voice. He was a fan of big band music and of his sons band, The Fabulous Traidmarx. He also enjoyed and collected Oliver tractors. Most of all, he was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Clayton passed away at his home near Dickens on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Vina and Frances Rusk; and a brother, Kenneth Rusk.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Dickens; two sons and their wives: Bob and Nira Rusk of Dickens and Jim and Jan Rusk of Greenville, Iowa; one daughter and her husband, Jo Ann and Bruce Merrill of Greenville, Iowa; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Rusk of Linn Grove, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
