Howard F. Gannon, the son of Leo and Helen (Schmitz) Gannon, was born November 24, 1923, in Milford, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School.

On May 30, 1943, Howard was united in marriage to Val (Velma) Barth in Spencer, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage he was drafted by the Army where he served our country until he was honorably discharged in 1946.

Howard went to work for Peoples Natural Gas and during his 40 years of service, lived in the communities of Spencer, Hartley, Forest City, Manchester, and Jackson, Minnesota. They had recently moved back to Spencer, Iowa.

Howard was an active member in the community belonging to the Lions Club and Rotary. He was a former president of the Spencer School Board and Chamber of Commerce. Howard was an avid golfer. He also loved to fish, but most of all he loved to spend time with his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

On July 13, 2006, Howard passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen; brothers: Don and Dr. Paul Gannon; Sister, Loretta (Tootsie) Gannon; sister-in-law, Lu Gannon; and brother-in-law, Al Markado.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Val (Velma) Gannon of Spencer, IA; his nine children: Barbara Hanson of Minneapolis, MN, Nancy (Ron) Enger of Medford, OR, Kathy (Bill) Johnson of Riverside, CA, Tom (Janet) Gannon of Norfolk, NE, Sally (Kirk) Naber of Ankeny, IA, Richard (Lynn) Gannon of Denver, CO, Bob (Cindy) Gannon of Blackduck, MN, Cheryl (Matt) Lantz of Lake Crystal, MN, and Bill (LaDonna) Gannon of Aberdeen, SD; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dr. Jim (Shirley) Gannon of Rogers, AR, and Dr. Harold (Pat) Gannon of Mesa, AZ; two sisters: Iola Schomberg of Gaffey, NC, and Mary Markado of Reseda, CA; two sisters-in-law: Lois Gannon of Iowa City, IA, and Jo Gannon of Peoria, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
