Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A Catholic Vigil Service will be held 7:00 P.M, April 3, 2006 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

James Patrick Roling, the son of Leo J. and Anna Helen (Nelis) Roling, was born February 24, 1940, in Denison, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Early, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Early in 1958. He began his career at Corn Belt Power as a general plant worker in 1960 at the Wisdom Station in Spencer.

Jim married Sheryl Dick on October 12, 1963, in Early, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, Iowa, where Jim continued his career at Corn Belt Power and was promoted to control operator, shift operator, electric and control, and operations and maintenance supervisor before being named plant manager in 1998. He was scheduled to retire on April 25, 2006. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also served on the Parish Advisory Council and the Sacred Heart School Board. Jim served on the Spencer City Council for 32 years from 1974 through 2005. During that time, he served on many committees and boards and helped the city develop into an economic leader in northwest Iowa by helping attract business and industry to Spencer. He loved watching his grandchildrens activities and over the years, attended numerous basketball and baseball games, music concerts, soccer games and school activities.

Jim passed away at the Spencer Hospital on April 1, 2006, at the age of 66, following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William; and one sister, Mary Kay Mueller.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl, of Spencer, IA; two daughters: Lisa Edet and her husband, Essie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Erin Roling of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Michael Roling and his wife, Cathy of Clive, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Elizabeth, Matthew and Katie Roling and Cassandra, Anna and Lauren Edet; one sister, Joan Nath of Marion, Iowa; one brother, John Roling of Madison, Wisconsin; one brother-in-law, Jerry Mueller of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Marlene Roling of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
