Funeral Services Held Friday for Mrs. A. Peabody

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the M. E. church in Gillett Grove for Mrs. Annie Peabody, 71, who passed away last Wednesday, January 9, 1935, at her home two miles east of Gillett Grove following an illness of inflammatory rheumatism and heart disease, which had seriously afflicted her for several days.

Rev. Carl Hammer, pastor of the M. E. church, officiated. A hymn, Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," was sung, interment was in the Garfield cemetery. A short prayer service was held at the home at two o'clock.

Annie Hovinga was born in East Friesland, Germany, not far from Holland, August 21, 1863, being 71 years, four months and 18 days of age at her death. When she was 19 years of age, the Hovinga family immigrated to the United States and lived for some time in Ackley, Iowa. Forty-four years ago the family moved to the Gillett Grove neighborhood. On July 27, 1892, she was united in marriage with Thomas J. Peabody at Spencer. To them three children were born: Sarah, who has remained at home; Alexander, who died from influenza while stationed at Camp Dodge in the service of the United States during the World war; and Simon, who has also lived at home.

Mrs. Peabody had lived on same farm practically since her marriage. Mr. Peabody passed away eight years ago, becoming ill on the same day of the month as did his wife, the third of January. He was ill five days and his wife six days.

In the Hovinga family there were five children, two boys and three girls, one of whom, Simon Hovinga of Webb, passed away Tuesday of this week. Besides the grief stricken children, many other relatives and close friends mourn her passing.

Mrs. Peabody was held in esteem in the community in which she resided. She was honest and upright, and well thought of. Baptized as an infant in the Presbyterian church, she later was received into membership by that denomination.
