Dies As Result of Influenza

Chris. C. Chapman Died Thursday January 16—Funeral Services Held Saturday Afternoon

Chris C. Chapman died at his home in south Spencer on Thursday, January 16, the cause of his death being influenza and other complications.

Mr. Chapman was born at West Union, Iowa, September 28, 1872 and was 46 years, 6 months and 18 days old at the time of his death.

He was married in 1892 at West Union to Miss Ella Lee, and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Sorrenson of Rochester, Minnesota.

Mr. Chapman came to Clay county in 1903 and has since made his home in Spencer. He was married the second time at Spencer to Miss Iva McKee of Freeport, Ill., in 1904 and to them were born two children, Vernie and Arthur, both deceased.

Mr. Chapman was a good honest man, well liked and respected by a large circle of friends. He was a kind and indulgent husband, father and neighbor.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, daughter, and six brothers, James of West Union, Ed of Spencer, George of Dickens, Frank of Cedar Rapids, Roland of Oregon, Ill., Glen of Fostoria, and four sisters, Mrs. Chloe Whipp of Tripoli, Mrs. Wm. McElree of West Union, Mrs. Frank Knapp of West Union, Mrs. Herbert Knight of Alberta, Canada, and also three grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. A. M. Leichleiter and the body was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery, the services at the grave being conducted by the Modern Woodmen of America.

The relatives attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. James Chapman of West Union, Walter Chapman, a cousin, of Hawkeye, Mr. and Mrs. George Chapman of Dickens, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Chapman of Fostoria, C.A. McKee of Sycamore, Illinois, and Mrs. A.E. Kirkland of Decorah. The daughter, Mrs. Sorrenson, did not arrive until after the funeral.
