High School Boy Dies
Otto Ferdinand Olson died at his home on West Second street at 10 o'clock Friday evening, November 17, 1916 following a few days illness of blood poisoning.
Otto was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olson and was born in Lincoln township, this county, on April 25, 1898. About a year ago he moved with his parents to this city and was just developing into young manhood when stricken by death. He was a member of the Junior class of the Spencer high school and also of the H.S. football team, playing his last game at Estherville November 16.
Otto was an unusually bright and companionable lad whom it was a pleasure to know and those who knew him best will mourn the loss of a bright and friendly young man whose untimely death ends what held promise of a career of usefulness in this world. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran church and of the young people's society of that church and took much interest in all church work.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olson and sister, Miss Lyie Olson. One sister Adelia having died about three years ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11:30 o'clock from Grace M.E. church conducted by his pastor, Rev. Henry Hanson, who was assisted by Rev. A.E. Gustafson of the Swedish Lutheran church. The high school closed during the services and the students attended in a body. The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse. The following members of the football team acted as pall bearers: Robert Burgitt, Paul Fingerson, Geo. Clapper, Glenn Peterson, Stanley Pearson and Rollin Axtell.
Burial was made in the Lincoln township cemetery.
