ANDREW OLSON DIES THURSDAY
Funeral Held Sunday from Lutheran Church; Burial in Lincoln Cemetery
Andrew Olson, 64, highly esteemed resident of Spencer, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 15, at 4:30 o'clock at his home, East Sixteenth street, following an acute heart attack. He had been in failing health for the past few weeks.
Funeral rites were held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8, at 2:30 o'clock from the Bethany Lutheran church in Spencer and were conducted by Rev. K. Nyegaard, pastor. Burial was made in the cemetery in Lincoln township, near Royal.
Born Jan. 20, 1870, on the Island of Zealand, Denmark, Mr. Olson remained there until he was 20 years old, at which time he came to the United States and located in Spencer, Ia. Mr. Olson spent one year at Spencer and then moved to a farm in Lincoln township. With the exception of one year, 1891, spent in Denver, Colo., Mr. Olson had lived in this county since coming here from Denmark.
At Spencer March 24, 1896, he was united in marriage to Selma Matilda Freeburg and to this union four children were born. Otto Ferdinand preceded his father in death in 1916 at the age of 19 years and Adelia Elizabeth died in 1913 at the age of 13 years.
Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Alfred C. Thompson and Miss Berma Mae Olson, of this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Olson continued farming until about ten years ago, when he retired from active farm life.
He joined the Swedish Lutheran church at the time of his marriage and remained a faithful member until 1915 when, with his family, he joined the Bethany Lutheran church in Spencer.
