WOMAN IS SUICIDE AT CHEROKEE
Mrs. Iva Buzby Uses Towel As Noose to Hang Self
Despondent over poor health, which caused her to attempt suicide about two mouths ago, Mrs. Iva Buzby, 43, Spencer, took her life by hanging at the State Institute in Cherokee sometime Friday afternoon.
The act was accomplished with the use of a towel, tied to the transom over the door of her room.
Her body was found by attendants at about 4:30 o'clock Friday afternoon and it is presumed that she had died several hours before.
She was committed to the institution on August 11 of this year.
She suffered a nervous breakdown in May and shortly before being taken to Cherokee attempted to take her life by drinking lysol.
A life-long resident of Spencer, she made her home on West Eighth street.
Only meager details concerning her death could be obtained this week.
Funeral rites were held from the Cobb Funeral home, South Main street, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 24, at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congregational church.
Special music was furnished by Mrs. L. R. Gartland of this city, who sang two vocal selections. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery and pall bearers were: Dan Cole, Harold Smith, C.C.N. Winslow and Claude J. Nugent.
Born in Spencer, March 28, 1890, the deceased had always made her home in this city, until a few weeks ago when she was taken to the state institute in Cherokee for treatment following a nervous breakdown.
She attended the Spencer public schools and in November, 1918, she was married to Mr. Buzby. To this union one daughter, Jean, was born.
For the past ten years, Mrs. Buzby was in charge of the shoe department in the J.C. Penney Store, Spencer, which position she resigned from last May because of poor health.
Surviving are her daughter, Miss Jean, age 13, her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Larson and a sister, Mrs. Meta Frazier of this city, three brothers, H.P. Larson and E.G. Larson of Mason City and N.D. Larson of Iowa Falls, Ia., other relatives and a host of friends.
