Services for Mary Helen Eggers, 77, of Spencer, were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Warner Chapel.

Dr. Patrick Shelley officiated with burial in the Summit Township Cemetery in rural Spencer.

Eggers, the daughter of Walter and Eva (Peterson) Smith, was born February 14, 1904 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She spent most of her childhood in Marshalltown, graduating from Marshalltown High School. Eggers later attended Iowa State University in Ames.

She married Herman Eggers on June 30, 1926 in Ames. Following their marriage, they lived in the Fostoria community, where her husband farmed for a number of years.

A member of the First Congregational Church and the Weaver's Guild, Eggers played the organ at community nursing Homes and also entered many of her crafts at county fairs.

Eggers died Thursday at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 11, 1979; one sister, Fae Louise; and one brother, Hart Smith.

Survivors include one brother, John Smith of San Diego, California; and one sister, Rachel Whaley of Mountlake Terrace, Washington.

The Warner Funeral Home was in charge of the service arrangements.
