June 27, 1905-February 11, 1979Funeral for Herman J. Egers, 73, of rural Spencer was held Wednesday afternoon from Warner Chapel in Spencer.
The Rev. Gerald Hallauer officiated. Burial was at Summit Township Cemetery in Clay County, Iowa
Bearers; Elwood Johnson Jr., Chuck Trullinger, Gordon Schueneman, Lowell Hagedorn, Calvin Christensen and Arthur Schueneman.
Mr. Eggers died Sunday, February 11 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1905, to Henry and Bertha (Heikens) Eggers in Clay County, Iowa.
On June 30, 1926, he was married to Mary Helen Smith at Ames.
He received his early education in Clay County schools and graduated from Spencer High School. He later attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.
He farmed in Clay County until retiring in 1967. He was assessor for Summit Township for many years and was active in many county affairs.
Surviving are his widow, Mary Helen of Spencer, two brothers, Harlan of New Hampton, Iowa, and Maris of Redwood City, California and a sister, Mrs, Karl (Gertie) Johnson of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
