George Sherman Hume of the vicinity of Dickens and Gillett Grove died suddenly last Thursday morning, February 28, at his home. His death resulted from a weak heart. At the time of his death he was 63 years, 4 months and 10 days old.

George Sherman Hume was the son of William and Barbara Hume and was born at Bellaire, Ohio, October 21, 1865. There he spent his early life and grew into manhood. At the age of twenty-one years he moved to Waynesville, Illinois, and it was there August 22, 1888 that he was united in marriage to Laura Bell Reed. In 1906 the family moved to South Dakota, where they remained until the spring of 1915 when they came to Iowa and located on a farm near Dickens and Gillett Grove where they were living at the time of Mr. Hume's death.

Mr. and Mrs. Hume were the parents of seven children, two sons died in infancy. The surviving are Chester Hume of Ayrshire, George W. and Glenn Hume residing with their mother, Mrs. Dorothy Martin of Claymont, Delaware, and Mrs. Barbara Clasing of Ruthven. He is also survived by two [sic] sisters, Mrs. Daley of St. Claireville, Ohio.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Hume home. Rev. John W. Peterson, pastor of the Methodist church of Dickens officiated. A men's quartette composed of Mr. Bailey, Mr. King, Mr. Blackhurst and Mr. Van Hoven sang. Interment was made in Logan township cemetery.
