Prior to the marriage of Merle & Rosamae, Merle worked for Gordon & Ernie Kettleson Block Masonry in Sioux Falls, SD. Merle & Rosamae were united in marriage on June 20th, 1970 at the First Baptist Church in Spencer, Iowa.

Following their marriage Merle was employed at Dean Specialty, Sioux Falls SD; Walt Jones Roofing, Westfield, Iowa; and Hostetler Roofing, Spencer, Iowa; as well as Osterberg Roofing, Spencer, Iowa; He drove the school bus for Clay County Head Start and worked at Cleber’s. Merle loved spending time with his family & grandchildren; and spending time shooting the breeze over coffee. His past time was spent lending a hand to anyone needing a handy man, for roof repairs, snow shoveling, car repairs, etc.
He enjoyed singing at the piano with his wife whenever possible and listening to The Gaithers, Southern Gospel, original Country Western and Johnny Cash.

Merle is survived by his wife, Rosie of 37 years; daughters Andrea, Cindy, Deanne (Miguel) Hernandez all of Spencer and Micale (Kyle) Hillerud of Beulah, North Dakota.
