John A. Hickman, 65 years of age, highly esteemed resident of Royal, passed away Sunday, February 21, 1932, at his home. Mr. Hickman was taken ill in January, 1931, and his health continued to fail. He was confined to his bed from November, 1931, until his death.

John Andrew Hickman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Hickman, was born at Lacona, Iowa, August 19, 1866, and departed this life at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 2 days.

His early life was spent at Lacona on the farm with his parents. On November 28, 1889, he was united in marriage to Laura Nolan who died in 1902.

To this union were born five children, Mrs. R.L. Darlington of Royal, Iowa, Mrs. F.C. Roberts of Sacramento, California, and Merrel Hickman of Royal. Two children died in infancy.

After the death of his wife, he lived and farmed with his father until February 13, 1904, when he was united in marriage to Irene Darlington. He moved to Royal in 1914 where he resided until his death. After locating in Royal he followed the mason trade.

Mr. Hickman was a kind and loving father, his life being devoted to the welfare of his children.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Irene Hickman, two daughters, Fern and Beulah, and a son Merrel, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Loney of Charlton, Iowa and Mrs. George Wastabaugh of Omaha, Nebraska, five grandchildren and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Cobb-Phelps funeral home in Spencer with the Reverend A. P. Anderson, pastor of the Danish Lutheran church in Royal, in charge. Burial was made in the Riverside cemetery at Spencer.
