Theresa Heikens Rites Saturday

Funeral for Theresa Groenewold Heikens, 94, of Spencer, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Methodist Church of rural Spencer with the Rev. David L. Nelson officiating. Burial will be at the First Reformed Cemetery at Everly.

Mrs. Heikens died February 23 at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Nephews of Mrs. Heikens will serve as bearers at the rites.

She was born September 14, 1877, in Grundy County, the daughter of Jelske and Henrietta (Eggers) Cramer. She was married March 5, 1902, at Clarion to H.J. Groenewold, who preceded in death, August 16, 1923. She married Harry Heikens Sr., June 23, 1948. He died March 5, 1958.

Mrs. Heikens was a member of Zion Methodist Church, the Women's Society of the Church, the Farm Bureau and Friendship Club of Spencer.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Schroeder of Spencer and Mrs. S.E. Schmerse of Spencer, two stepsons, George D. Heikens of Everly and Harry Heikens Jr. of Spencer; two step-daughters, Martha Kratz of California and Lyla Mett of Spencer; three grandchildren including, Mrs. Duane Fonley of Spencer, Mrs. John Derdall and Mrs. Raymond Steier, eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Joe Loyd of Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, four sisters, her husbands and an infant son.

Mrs. Heikens had been a resident of this area more than 70 years. She was a Sunday school teacher as long as her health permitted and maintained a keen interest in agricultural activities.

Lightle-Hayes Funeral Home of Spencer has charge of final arrangements.
