George Groenewold
March 14, 1829-August 26, 1920

George Groenewold, a highly respected resident of Clay County for the past thirty-four years, died at his home northwest of Everly Friday, August 26, 1920.

Deceased was a native of Germany. He was born in Larrelt, Ostfriesland, Germany on March 14, 1829, and came to America in 1866. He first settled at Peoria, Illinois, where on November 6, 1869, he was united in marriage to Miss Gertie Heiden, who preceded him in death on March 24, 1912.

This union was blessed with five children all of whom are living. On March 1875 Mr. and Mrs. Groenewold settled in Hardin County and on March 10, 1886, they came to Clay County where he has since resided. Besides his five children he leaves to mourn his death eleven grandchildren, a number of relatives and a host of friends.

During the long span of his life which covered a period of 91 years, 5 months and 13 days. Mr. Groenewold experienced all the trials and hardship of pioneer life. He knew the school of experience by this old was the cheered in the homes of his children where loving care was never lacking and when sickness and old age made him bed fast it was trebled.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the First Reformed Church and burial was made in the Reformed Church Cemetery.
