July 21, 1909-June 2, 2006Ettie Dena Groenewold, 96, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.
Services for Ettie will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in Warner Chapel of Spencer. Rev. Karen Larson will officiate the service.
Casket Bearers; Jerry Groenewold, Dave Groenewold, Dennis Somers, Patricia Amundrud, Micheal Groenewold, Sylvia Hall and Gwen Groenewold.
Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m., following the luncheon at First Reformed Cemetery of rural Everly.
Ettie, the daughter of J.G. and Maggie (Cramer) Groenewold, was born July 21, 1909, in Waterford Township. She received her early education in a rural school in Waterford Township, graduating from Spencer High School. Following high school, she attended Western Union College (Westmar College) in LeMars. For a number of years she taught in the rural schools of Clay County. She then was librarian of the Everly Public Library for man years. She resigned that position in 1985 and moved to Spencer in 1986.
Ettie was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of Everly, where she taught Sunday school, helped with Bible School and various other church activities. She was also and active member of General Federated Women's Club and held offices on the local, country and district level.
In October of 1999, Ettie suffered a stroke and entered St. Luke Lutheran Home, where she resided until the time of her death.
She was precede in death by her parents and two brothers, George Groenewold and one in infancy.
Ettie is survived by her sister, Anna Somers of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
Interment in First Reformed Church cemetery
