John Eeten
May 19, 1911 - February 7, 2008John Eeten, 96, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Eeten were held Monday, February 11, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial took place at First Reformed Church Cemetery in Everly.
John Eeten, the son of Enno and Anna (Wagenaar) Eeten, was born May 19, 1911 in Harrisburg, Illinois. When John was 3 years old, his family moved to a farm west of Fostoria where he attended Summit Township Country School.
On November 24, 1939, John married Margaret Dixon at his parent's farm near Fostoria. Following their marriage, they farmed together in rural Clay County, until purchasing the North Star Gas Station in Fostoria in 1963. For seven years, John and Margaret owned and operated the station, During his semi-retirement, John worked part time for the City of Fostoria mowing grass and servicing the town.
In the fall of 1993, they moved to Spencer. John was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; his son Robert; seven sisters; Goldie Wilson, Anna Heikens, Gertie Heikens, Hilda Groen, Irene Eeten, Marie Kettner and Inez Momsen; five brothers; Harry, Harm, George, Ernie and Enno (Pete) Eeten; a granddaughter, Alison (Perry) Thompson and a grandson, Todd Eeten Perry.
John is survived by his daughter, Betty and her husband, Mike Perry of Ankeny; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Myers of Denver; and two sister-in-laws; Betty Eeten of Hartley and Marge Eeten of Spencer.
