In 1870 they came to Clay county and Mr. Hartman took a homestead southwest of Spencer and resided on it until about twenty years ago when he moved to Spencer, where he has since resided with the exception of a few years when the family lived at Webb and Royal when they conducted a hotel.
Mr. Hartman was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and was a prominent and well known citizen. He had a large acquaintance and numbered many personal friends. Mr. Hartman and his family endured all the hardships of the pioneers of this county, and lived to see the country of his adoption become a prosperous and thrifty community.
The funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist church, the services being conducted by Rev. F.C. Taylor, and the interment being in Riverside cemetery. The Grand Army attended in a body.
