Gone to Rest

William H. Arms, son of Justice R. Arms and Philena Arms was born May 24th, 1844 in Stephenson county, Ill., died Sept. 2d, 1909, of heart disease at his home near Spencer.

When quite young he removed with his parents to Prarie du Chien, Wis. In 1864 he enlisted in Company A, 13, Light Artillery, of Wisconsin, and served until close of war. He came to Clay county, Iowa, in 1870 where he took up a homestead on Section 14, Lincoln township, which has been his home ever since.

He was married to Elizabeth R. Brownell, July 19, 1876. To them were born eleven children, one which died in infancy. The others were all at the funeral whose are Effie J. Arms, of High Point, Iowa; Roy E., of Oskaloosa, Delos E. of Aberdeen, Idaho, Lora, Clinton, Harlow, Russel, Monroe, Ralph and Ruby.

Mr. Arms at various times held positions of trust and responsibility in the community and was highly esteemed by all. He became a christian early in life and joined the M.E. church, of which he has been an active member until his death.

At a definite period of time since about a year and a half ago he entered into the Christian experience of entire sanctification which was so blessedly manifested during his last sickness at which time he almost continually praised God in song and testimony through all his suffering, which was extremely intense incessantly for several hours; leaving a grand example of the sweet grace of God amidst most awful pain and suffering. When the end came he passed away peacefully to his glorious home beyond. He leaves a wife, ten children, three brothers, two sisters, many distant relatives and a host of friends who will greatly miss his presence, love and influence.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cannon, of Corworth, Iowa, at the M.E. church of Rossie, Sept. 4, at 12 m. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery, Spencer, Iowa.
