To Hold Last Rites Thursday

Well known Clay Co. Woman Dies Tuesday After a Long Illness

Mrs. John Berenger, highly esteemed resident of Clay County for the past forty-six years, passed away Tuesday morning of this week at 8:10 o'clock at her home 270 East Third Street, following and illness of several months. Her death was caused from heart trouble and complications, at which time Mrs. Berenger was 69 years, 3 months and 19 days old.

Harriett LeClair, one of eleven children of Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair, was born in Iroquois County, Illinois, July 15, 1861. She remained in that county until 1882 and at that time with her parents, moved to O'Brien county, Iowa, where she was later married to John Berenger. Their marriage took place January 17, 1883.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Berenger continued living in O'Brien county for one year and in 1884 moved to Everly, where they made their home for a number of years. Mr. Berenger was manager of the Hunting Elevator at Everly. In 1914, Mr. and Mrs. Berenger moved from Everly to Greenville, where they purchased a grocery store and had charge of it until they moved to Spencer in 1920.

Since moving to Spencer ten years ago, Mrs. Berenger had lived at 270 East Third Street.

Mrs. Berenger was a faithful member of Scared Heart Church, Spencer, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her.

She is survived by two daughters, Mr. T.A. Teasdale, of Anaheim, California, and Miss Lorraine Berenger at home; two sons; Arthur Berenger of Royal, and Henry Berenger of Detroit, Michigan, two sisters, Mrs. Phil Meyhew of Everly, and Mrs Nels Reno, of Colfax, North Dakota; four brothers, Victor and George LeClair, of Rosholt, North Dakota, Will LeClair, of Curray, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Berenger was preceded in death by her husband, who died March 9, 1929, a son, John, who was killed in an automobile accident, May 18, 1914, and a daughter, Margaret, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will take place this, Thursday morning, at 10 o'clock from Sacred Heart Church. Rev. Father M.C. Wendl will be in charge. Burial will be made in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Everly.
