Funeral services for Dale Howard Asmussen were held on Thursday, October 26, 1989 at 10:30 am in the St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, Iowa. Father Eugene Schumacher officiated.

Casket Bearers; Joe LeClair, Dwayne Craig, Jack Ihry, Rupert Knapp, Frank Huss and Delbert Boyles.

Honorary Casket Bearers; Oliver Ficken, Bob Steuben and Boyd Walton.

Burial was in the Lone Tree cemetery at Everly. Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Howard Asmussen, the son of Hans Peter and Elizabeth (Gross) Asmussen, was born October 6, 1920, in Royal, Iowa. It was in the Everly Community School that Dale received his education and graduated from Everly High School in 1938.

Following his graduation, he joined the Army Air Force and served with them from June 30, 1942 until the time of his honorable discharge on November 7, 1945. While in the Army Air Force, he was awarded a Bronze Star for the Rhineland Campaign and also a Good Conduct Medal. He also graduated at the top of his class in Aircraft Engine Repair School. After his discharge from the Army, he came back home to farm.

On September 8, 1950, Dale married Florence Walsh. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Royal area for many years. While living in Royal, he was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion. Dale also enjoyed bowling and playing cards very much. He loved life and enjoyed living it.

Dale passed away at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa on October 22, 1989, at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Joseph and Frankie.

Dale is survived by his wife, Florence of Royal, Iowa; two daughters; Bernardene (Bernie) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Pamela of Royal; two sons; Paul and Peter, both of Royal; one sister, Cecelia Killmer of Everly; a half sister Dora Mae Pedersen of Royal and other relatives and friends.
