July 18, 1906-May 1977Funeral for Jack Behrends, 70, of Everly was held Saturday morning from the United Methodist Church of Everly.
The Rev. Gary Bird officiated. Burial was at the First Reformed Cemetery, Fostoria.
Duane Fonley sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Russell Clifford at the organ.
Bearers were Jim Walton, Boyd Walton, Herman Wilken,Jr., Kenneth Burger, Wilson Drury and Dale Holleson.
Mr. Berends died Wednesday at his home.
He was born July 18, 1906, to Goeke and Anna (Vogt) Behrends at Little Rock, IA
On September 24, 1926, he was married to Johanna Kruse at Jackson, Minnesota. She preceded him in death and on February 17, 1976, he was married to Gertrude Lepper at Jackson, Minnesota.
Mr. Behrends received his education in Little Rock and Rushmore, Minnesota schools. After his first marriage, he moved to a farm north of Everly in 1926. They lived there until 1951 when they moved to the Holland, Minnesota area. They returned to the Everly community in 1963.
Surviving are his widow, Gertrude; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Violet) Wittfoth of Beaver Bay, Minnesota, and Mrs. Alvin (Gert) Heidebrink of Holland, Minnesota; four grandchildren; five step-children; 23 step grandchildren and six great step grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brother, Charlie Behrends of Cedar Falls and Ben Behrends of Barrett, Minnesota and two sisters, Mrs. Foley (Nellie) Basche of Tyler, Minnesota and Mrs. Sena Tolzin of Fulda, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a son in infancy, a brother and a sister.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
