James Leroy Greene, the son of S. L. 'Jack' and Esther Margaret (Heinsen) Greene, was born November 4, 1937, in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in Greenville where he received his early education at the Greenville/Rossie Consolidated School. He later continued his education and graduated from high school in Corpus Christi, TX.
Jim married Barbara Ann Johnson on January 6, 1957, at the Friends Church in Greenville, IA. They farmed many years in the Greenville and Sioux Rapids, IA, area until 1985, when they moved to Texas where he worked as a mechanic for many years. They became full time 'RVer's' and part-time helpers on the farm for their son, Ben in 2000. In 2009, they discontinued full-time RVing and built a home in Webb. Jim was a member of the Friends Church in Greenville and most recently attended the United Methodist Church in Webb. He enjoyed any event involving family, including: camping, golfing, farming, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and kind gentle loving heart.
Jim passed away at his home in Webb on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gary Greene; and three sisters: Phylis Frederici, Ruth Campbell and Helen Yungbluth.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Greene of Webb; his children: Ben and wife, Karen Greene of Webb, IA, Lori and husband, Tom Smith of Storm Lake, IA, Rick and wife, Lisa Greene of Quitmann, TX and Gary and wife, Deneen Greene of Middlesex, PA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; three brothers: Bill and wife, Betty Greene of Dunlap, TN, Clarence and wife, Kathy Greene of Sioux City, IA and Jack and wife, Barb Greene of Sergeant Bluff, IA; two sisters: Bettie Mills and husband, Gale of Alamo, TX, and Mary Fitzgerald of Rochester, MN; other relatives and many friends.
