Jeremiah M. Fallon, 87, who has been failing in health since February 25 when he fell and broke his leg and complications developed, died Friday, March 4, 1932, at 3 p.m. at his home northeast of Greenville. Mr. Fallon has resided in Clay county 58 years and was among the pioneer settlers of this district.
The Reverend B.H. Cheney, pastor of the Congregational church of Greenville, conducted the funeral services held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Cobb-Phelps Funeral chapel in Spencer. A quartet of the church sang "Abide With Me," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye."
George Hargrave, George Mills, Sr., Charles Ashburn, Peter Flipsey, Charles Anderson and Ray Moore served as pall bearers. Burial was made at the Liberty cemetery south of Greenville.
Jeremiah M. Fallon was born September 10, 1844, near the town of Mores, New York, one-half mile from the Canadian boundary. There he grew to manhood and in 1874 came to Iowa where he was engaged in farming south of Greenville in Clay county. Thirty-two years ago he moved to the farm northeast of Greenville where his death occurred.
In 1865 he was married to Barbara Anne First. Two children of this union, James J. Fallon of Greenville, and Mrs. Sarah Cady of Madelia, Minnesota, survive Mr. Fallon. Mrs. Fallon preceded him in death.
He was married in 1892 to Lavenia Mates who died in 1918. To this union were born a son and a daughter, John Fallon and Mrs. Bessie Bolyard, both of Greenville.
Mr. Fallon was at one time a member of the Methodist Episcopal church south of Greenville but in later years joined the Congregational church in Harmony neighborhood, Gillett Grove township.
Besides his two sons and two daughters, he leaves to mourn his death eleven grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral Monday were Harry Kellogg of White, South Dakota, Charles Scrivens, Colman, South Dakota, Mrs. Sara Cady, Miss Iva Cady and Arhuna Cady of Madelia, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Helland of Hardy, Mrs. Anna Johsnon, Mitchell, South Dakota, Mrs. and Mrs. Harry Dessinger, Mrs. and Mrs. Walter Dessinger and W.H. Fallon, all of Fort Dodge, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Werts of Hartley.
