Oscar Emil Olson, passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on Monday, August 18, at the age of 101. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 22 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Pastor Perry Fruhling will officiate. Internment will take place at Liberty Cemetery in Greenville. Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.

Oscar Olson, the son of John Gust and Selma A. Barglof Olson, was born January 25, 1902 in Greenville. His childhood years were spent on a farm south of Greenville, where he received his education, graduating from Greenville Consolidated School. He later attended Iowa State College in Ames.

On November 27, 1931, Oscar married Edith Mae Thomas in Long Prairie, Minn. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Greenville where he was born, until moving to Spencer to St. Luke Lutheran Home in June of 1999. He farmed his century farm during his working years. He was a member of Friends Church in Greenville and was also a member of the Farm Bureau. For many years Oscar was the assessor for Herdland Township in Clay County, he served 15 years on the Greenville/Rossie School Board and was instrumental in combing the two schools.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edith, his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include one son and wife; John and Mavis Olson of Sioux Rapids; one daughter and husband, Janet and Troy Hermstad of Webb; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild
