James Wallace Mitchell passed away at his home in Greenville, Thursday, February 24, 1927, at the age of seventy four years, four months and twelve days.

James Wallace Mitchell, son of Jacob P. and Eleanor M. Mitchell, was born in Stevenson County, Illinois, October 12, 1855. He came to Iowa at the age of twenty one and settled on a farm near Marshalltown. On January 13, 1881, he was united in marriage to Caroline Ertel. To this union were born eleven children, five sons and six daughters. The family lived near Marshalltown for twelve years and then moved to a farm near Sioux Rapids where the children grew to manhood and womanhood. The decreased was a kind father, a loving husband, and a good neighbor respected for truth and veraeity, and held in high esteem by all who knew him. All was done that kind hands and medical aid could do until the last spark of life was extinguished, and the sojourner crossed the thresh hold of the mystic door.

Funeral services were held in the Friends Church in Greenville, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. F. E. Carpenter officiating , and interment was made in Fanny Fern Cemetery.

Beside his wife the decreased is survived by ten children, Harvey E. of Hemmit, California; Harrison D. of Summet, South Dakota; Guy R. of Livermore, California; Wallace I. of Sioux Rapids; C. Aubrey of Sioux City; Eleanor Byrd of Versailles, Ohio; Myrtle M. Colby of Storm Lake; Nellie A. Dyer of Brookings, South Dakota; Pearl E. Lauber of Storm Lake; Vennetta E. Veitch of Greenville; two brothers, Norton L. and Robert R. of Freeport, Illinois and one sister, Martha Yatger of Dakota, Illinois; thirty-six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
