Fell Down Basement Steps; Shock of Fall Too Great to Stand
Charles W. Thompson, a resident of Clay county for the past eighteen years, and a brother of Mrs. F.D. Solomon of Sioux street, died last Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Solomon home, following an illness of about eight months. He was 79 years, 7 months and 4 days old at the time of his death.
Mr. Thompson returned a week ago from the hospital in LeMars, where he had been for about eight months following an accident, from which he broke his leg. Monday before his death he fell down the basement steps and due to his age and weak condition he was unable to stand the shock of the fall.
He was born August 22, 1850, in Elkader, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood. At Elkader, September 27, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Harriett Cole, who preceded him in death two years ago.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson lived in Clayton county, Iowa, for a few years. Before moving to Clay county, eighteen years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson lived in the state of Missouri for a few years. They had no children.

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Cobb Funeral home. Rev. W.F. Hurst, pastor of the Christian church, had charge of the services. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

Thompson of Round Lake, Minnesota; Mrs. M.A. Sabin and son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sabin of Algona; Mr. and Mrs. Will Curtis of Blairstown, Iowa, the latter a niece and Merrill Mayhew of Vinton, Iowa.
