Mabel Lucille Swaim, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Noyer) Hodge was born on December 8, 1919 in Eldora, Iowa. Mabel was raised and received her early education in Eldora. After her schooling, she held various jobs in Eldora.
On July 10, 1944 Mabel married Olin Swaim in Waterloo, Iowa. Following their marriage, they continued to live in the community of Eldora, where Mabel was a homemaker. After her husband's death in 1971, Mabel moved to Spencer. She worked at the Center Cafe as a dishwasher for about 15 years before retiring. Mabel enjoyed playing cards, fishing and bingo. She also liked to watch The Price Is Right and Lawrence Welk, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially around the holidays. She was also a past member of the Eagle's Club in Spencer.
Mabel passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and 3 sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: Karen and Dave Gunnerson of Peterson, IA, Marilyn and Roger Isom of Sutherland, IA; great nieces and nephews: Bill and Amy Gunnerson of Spencer, IA, Gary Joe and Natalie Gunnerson of Peterson, IA, Jackie and Sonny Peterson of Sioux Rapids, IA and Paul and Trish Isom of Sutherland, IA; four great-great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
