Private Henry H. Sonius, 326th infantry, died of wounds in France on October 19 according to word received by the mother, Mrs. Rixie Sonius of Summit township. Henry Sonius left Spencer February 25, 1918 for Camp Dodge with a contingent of Clay county registered men, and went overseas in May.
The information telling of his death was received Saturday night in the form of a telegram from the war department. He was wounded on October 9 and died 10 days later.
He was born January 1, 1892 at Little Rock, Iowa, and came to Clay county with his parents, settling in Summit township 21 years ago. His father, Henry H. Sonius, died about l6 years ago.
Deceased is survived by his mother, six brothers—Harm, Reiner, John, Dick, George and Elbert (in the service, being stationed in Florida) and five sisters—Mrs. C. Hagemeyer, Mrs. Walter Croxton, of Clay county; Misses Ella and Lena at home; and Mrs. Hendricksen of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Evangelical church west of Fostoria, where Henry attended church, has a service flag of seven stars, five of which are gold. The five Summit township boys for whom the gold stars are placed in the flag are Ernest Vandermark, Chris. Anderson, Louie Anderson, Carl Wm. Mett and Henry Sonius.
