Mrs. James P. Albro, a resident of Spencer since 1925, passed away Saturday evening, April 21, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.L. Britton, 340 east Seventh street, Spencer. About six months ago, Mrs. Albro had a slight attack of paralysis and had been bedfast since that time. She had been in poor health for several years and during this last year was gradually getting weaker. At the time of her death, Mrs. Albro was 82 years, 3 months and 1 day old.
Mary E. Preston, daughter of Calbern and Jane Preston, was born in Exeter, New York, January 20, 1864. Her mother passed away when she was very small and for the following few years she made her home with her father. On December 22, 1867, at Bradford, Pennsylvania, he was united in marriage to James Perry Albro. To this union were born three children, two who died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. H.L. Britton (Nellie G. Albro) at 340 east Seventh street, Spencer.
Mr. and Mrs. Albro continued to live in Bradford county, Pennsylvania until the fall of 1869 when they came west and settled in Seney, Plymouth county, Iowa, near LeMars. Mr. and Mrs. Albro lived in Plymouth county for several years and then moved to Minnesota, and settled in a small village near Huntly. Here they resided on a farm for six years and then moved to Plymouth county and lived in their home at Seney. Mr. and Mrs. Albro remained in Seney until the year 1925 when they came to Spencer when they made their home with their only child, Mrs. H. L. Britton.
Mrs. Albro was a sweet and devoted wife and good earnest Christian mother. She took a great interest in the church affairs and was always busy helping in that line of work. She was a member of the Baptist church in Exter, New York, where her father was a minister. When she was married she united with the Methodist church.
Besides her husband, J.P. Albro, and daughter, Mrs. H.L. Britton, Mrs. Albro is survived by two grandsons, Wesley and Lora Green of Sioux City, Iowa, one great grandson and a host of friends.
The remains were taken to LeMars, Iowa, yesterday morning, April 24 and funeral services were held at 1 o'clock that afternoon at the Methodist church. Rev. Bertie Watson, pastor of the Methodist church, had charge of the services. Burial was made in the LeMars cemetery. Mr. James P. Albro, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Britton and Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt accompanied the body to LeMars. Mr. Albro remained there and is visiting with old time friends for a while but the others returned to Spencer last evening.
