Rudolph Otto is Dead

Clay County Resident Succumbs to Twenty-Year Illness at Home of Son in Summit Township

Rudolph Otto passed away Sunday shortly after midnight at the home of his son, Fred Otto, who resides in Summit township and with whom he has made his home for almost twenty years. The illness to which he succumbed was one of long standing having originated from a fall over twenty years ago.

Rudolph Otto was born on June 10, 1840, in West Prussia, Germany. While a German subject he married Miss Katie Hock with whom he lived happily until her death eleven years ago. Desiring to better himself and his family he brought them to America, June 1878. They first lived in Marshall county, Illinois, and at the present time three of his sons, named August, William and Louis, are residing there. About twenty years ago he came with his son Fred to Dickinson county where they lived until this past March. At that time they moved onto the Carl Zishka farm in Summit township, Clay county.

Mr. Otto was a kindly man, devoted to the interests of his family and always anxious to do what he could do to assist them. Throughout his long illness he was patient and uncomplaining. He was a member of the German Lutheran church and tried to obey its precepts by living a true Christian life.

Funeral services are to be held at the home of his son, Fred Otto, this afternoon at one o'clock and burial will be in the Summit cemetery. Rev. E. Grummer of the German Lutheran church of Spencer will conduct the services.
