Hjelmer Nis Huberg is the son of Hans and Mary Huberg. He was born on a farm south of Royal on January 21, 1914. His childhood years were spent on the farm near Royal.
Hjelmer married Dorothy Zieman of Peterson on December 27, 1934. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm 3 miles southwest of Royal until June of 1955 when they moved into Royal. In the beginning years of their marriage, Hjelmer milked 50 head of Holstein cows and his hobbies were his love of horses and his Shetland ponies. In 1952, Hjelmer had the entrepreneurial spirit and started Huberg Trucking. He ran the company for 52 years taking his last trip at the age of 90.
Hjelmer and Dorothy went on many trips together. He most of all enjoyed having his family close and Sunday coffee hour at their home after church. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Hjelmer & Dorothy just celebrated their 77th anniversary in December with their family.
Hjelmer passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his mother when Hjelmer was 7 years old; his father; 3 sisters & brother-in-laws: Margaret & Edward Syndergaard, Catherine and Irvin (Ace) Marders and Beulah & Darrell (Dewey) Santage; and 1 great-grandchild, Justin Huberg.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Royal; 3 children: Charles and wife, Loueen Huberg of Royal, IA, Louise Goode and husband, Bob of Canton, TX, and Roger and wife, Connie of Royal, IA; 9 grandchildren: Gary Huberg, Greg Huberg (Tina), Lori Larson (Jerry), Amy Holtz (David), Scott Kaseman, Mark Kaseman, Beau Huberg (Dana), Jill White (Brad) and Holly Pearson (Jay); 13 great- grandchildren: Amber Leonard (Jared), Caleb Huberg, Heath Huberg (Rebecca), Mattie and Emma Larson, Ethan and Kathryn Holtz, Morgan, Maggie and Mara White, Hudson and Greta Huberg and Hunter Pearson; five great-great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Teegan Leonard, Braden and Kaiden Huberg and Joshua Huberg.
