James J. Fallen of Greenville, 52, resident of Clay county for many years, passed away Saturday, July 30, at the Spencer hospital, death following a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Cobb-Phelps chapel Monday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. B.H. Cheney of the Congregational church of Greenville, in charge.
Pall bearers were Earl Sellers, Melvin Wertz, Roy Bartelman, Michael Hines, Francis Barglof and Alva Mills. Interment was made in the Liberty cemetery at Greenville.
James Jeremiah Fallen was born June 14, 1880, near Greenville. As he grew to young manhood he became interested in the barber's profession and worked at Greenville and at Grandeur, Iowa. During the past eight years he has been at home at Greenville with relatives. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in Spencer.
His health had been failing for a number of years and Tuesday of last week, July 26, he was admitted to the Spencer hospital where the best of care was given him but to no avail. Death came quietly Saturday evening.
He is survived by his brother, John Fallen, of Greenville, two sisters, Mrs. G. Bolyard of Greenville and Mrs. Sarah Cady of Madelia,
Minnesota, and a number of nieces and nephews. His father, Jeremiah Fallen, passed away last March.Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Gardner and family of Winterset, Mrs. Sarah Cady, Frank, Leo and Lela Cady and Gordon Crawford, all of Madelia, Minnesota, C.E. Johnson of Mitchell, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Helland of Hardy, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bartleman of Graettinger.
