The people of Northwest Lake were startled and shocked last Wednesday evening by the death of Nels Nelson, who lived on one of the farms of Miss Anna Tuttle on Section 8.

His wife died last spring and he was left alone and it was supposed that his loneliness preyed upon him and in moments when not at himself he took his own life. Harry Neil went ever to his place and was unable to find him about the place for sometime. He had not turned his cows into the pasture after milking in the morning. Harry went into the barn behind the cows and went through in front of the horses and came upon the body hanging by a rope, which he had tied to a rafter and swung down through the opening from the hay mow. This was about 7:30 p.m. and it was thought he had taken the fatal step about noon. Harry Niel was startled and grieved for he had a neighborly feeling toward the lone man who had suffered and now had lost out. He notified Ben Warren and the Coroner Sokol was notified and arrived about 8:30 and an inquest was held. No motive appeared for his wilful exit from life, except that he was lonely and temporarily lost his grip upon himself. He had money in the bank at Langdon.

He was born in Sweden September 16,1858. Came to America in 1880 and settled in Illinois, coming to
Clay county fourteen years ago. A brother, John Anderson, of Altoona, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Anna Hanawait and her husband of Galva, Ill., arrived on Thursday and the funeral was held from the Redtield & Cobb Undertaking parlors Friday afternoon and the body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in Riverside cemetery.

Who can tell the pathos of the lonely hours since he parted from the wife who was all to him as he had no children he was left entirely alone. Each sad life and its ending call for a tender sympathy from every lover of man. The sympathy of the News is extended to the bereaved ones.
