Adolph W.H. Mickley, 1851-1925

A resident of long standing in Spencer, Mr. Adolph W. H. Mickley, passed away at his home at four-thirty in the afternoon January 2, 1925. For the last eight to ten years he has suffered from aenemia and heart trouble, which finally resulted in his death, thus relieving him from all sorrow and pain at the age of seventy-three years, three months and nine days.

He was born in Nenendorf, Germany, September 23, 1851 He received his schooling abroad and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1865. He was united in marriage with Miss Marie Schultz November 21, 1879, and on June 24, 1892, the family embarked for this country, their destination being Dickens, Iowa. Later on they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where they have resided ever since with the exception of three years, during which time they made their home at LeMars, Iowa. He had lived in Spencer for thirty-one years and during most of this time, hr followed his trade, which was that of a brick layer.

Adolph Mickley was a devout Lutheran all his life, and a member of the English Lutheran church of Spencer in which he was an earnest worker and firm supporter of the creed. He has earned for himself in this community a place of respect and love from all his friends. He is survived by his wife and the following children, Max and Adolph Mickley of Onaka, South Dakota, William Mickley, living at home, Mrs. Martha Hodgens of Spencer, Iowa, and Mrs. Ida Powell of Waterloo, Iowa, who mourn their loss. Two children preceededed him in death, namely, Emma in 1881 and Otto in 1918.

Funeral services were held in the English Lutheran church of Spencer at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon in charge of the pastor, the Rev. O.C. Geisler. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
