Arnold Dwayne Clark, 1931 - 2005

Arnold Clark, 74, of Spencer, formerly of Akron, passed away March 31, 2005 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Funeral services were Monday, April 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Pallbearers were Bill Lamport, Leo Rossiter, Joe Schomberg, Pat Schomberg, Luke Lamport and Darrell Oltmanns.

Arnold Dwayne Clark, the son of William Russel and Minnie (Jurgenson) Clark, was born February 19, 1931 in Akron. He attended Akron Schools and following graduation was employed in grocery retail. On June 22,1952, Arnie was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Lockwood, a local school teacher, at the Methodist church in Burt, IA. On Ocotober 14,1952, Arnie enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He ended his service to his country on August 25, 1954. Upon returning to the states, Arnie resumed his work in grocery retail until 1960. He enjoyed a successful career in the insurance business for 40 years. His career began with the Equitable Life Assurance Society. He was the owner of Clark Insurance Agency in Milford until retiring in 2000.

His interest in the community included enthusiastic support for Spencer Tiger sports, Lions Club, PALS, and the American Field Service. He served as a state board member of the American Cancer Society for 15 years and served a term on the Spencer city council. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years, Arnie served as president of the church council, head usher, building fund treasurer and co-chair of the church's centennial celebration. Arnie enjoyed planning vacations, both here and abroad. He always shared his love of travel with his loving wife, Shirley. He enjoyed fishing and playing bridge. Arnie's concern for others and his caring heart were exemplified through his many acts of kindness toward the less fortunate.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his three daughters and their husbands, Rochelle and Bill Lamport of Leesburg, VA, Jennifer and Pat Schomberg of Fort Dodge, and Colette and Leo Rossiter of Spencer; eight grandchildren; one nephew, Darrell Oltmanns of Elkhorn, NE; and one sisterin- law, Dotty Clark of Akron.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; a brother, Lloyd; and his two sisters, Opal Schmidt and Berlien Pahl.
