Donald Duane Bendlin, the son of Wilhelm and Anna Pohl Bendlin, was born December 4, 1924 in Langdon, Iowa. Don received his early education in Spencer. Following his schooling, Don enlisted in the Army where he served for two years until his honorable discharge.
On September 14, 1974, Don married Loretta Elaine Smith Davis in Spencer, Iowa. Don worked at Northwest Glass as a glazer for over 20 years. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, the V.F.W., American Legion and also served as a board member for the Parker Historical Museum. In his spare time, Don enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Don passed away on October 22, 2006 at his home in Spencer at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Timothy Davis on June 29, 2006; two sisters, Audrey Gillium and Joyce Bendlin.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Spencer; three daughters and their husbands: Sally and Rick Sandvig of Spencer, Nancy and Daniel Schroeder of Hinton, IA and Karen and Daniel Schemmel of Sioux City, IA; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 5 sisters: Bernice Bowers of Spencer, Edna Reynolds of Milford, IA, Lorraine Pullen of Spencer, Shirley Brinkley of California and Madeline Adams of Spencer; 3 brothers: Virgil of Nebraska, Lowell and Marvin of Minnesota; other relatives and friends.
